The world today is in such a great need. Think for instance of the damages Hurricane Harvey has done.
In addition to the loss of humans and animals, the total loss this natural disaster leaves behind is estimated to over 100 billion dollars. And, it is still climbing.
Now, imagine you go some place. When, you come back, your home is gone. That is similar to what most people on Harvey's path are feeling.
This is where generosity comes into play!
Generosity is the fifth attitude every Christian should have.
In the following lines I'm going to share with you on how being generous is the only way we can solve our world's problems.
Generosity is more than philanthropic works
The type of generosity I want to talk about isn't only about something you give to others.
Here's how they can propel you to being generous:
- Humility creates joy and happiness in us. It is out of happiness, we love, show hospitality and are generous.
- Generosity is thus a process that transforms you and opens you to personal growth.
Here's a piece of Scripture that can help you get the kind of generous person you should always be:
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." John 3: 16. NRSV.
John 3: 16
- God loves the world.
- God gives the only thing He has: His Son.
- Those who believe in God's Son, Jesus Christ, God gives them eternal life.
What are the benefits of practicing Generosity?
There could be many, but for the sake of this post, I will list four, drawing on Psalm 41: 1-3:
Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble, the Lord delivers him; the Lord protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies. The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness, you restore him to full health." ESV.
Psalm 41: 1-3
What we find in this scripture, as one of the many examples in the Bible, are benefits that come with generosity:
The benefits you can get out of being generous are not only limited to what I've described above. There are more others.
But, what you should know is that generosity is a good attitude to have.
Here's therefore how I'd define generosity:
Bringing it together
Generosity implies reward now and in the future. It also suggests an impact now and in the future.
A generous person is thus someone who chooses to join and partner with God. He or she partners with God to make a difference in the lives of people now and in the future!
